What is his deal? Does he like me or not!?!?

This guy has asked me out to see a movie twice and I asked him to join me at my churches valentines banquet he said "I'd love to!" but he is very hard to read sometimes! one day he acts if he like me and other day's I dont know what to think cause he treats me like a friend.. were not boyfriend girl friend type thing.. He's not the kind of guy to ask out girls all the time. he boke up with his gf last August and I'm the first girl he has gone out with since... how can I tell if he really likes me without coming out and asking him?
