I want to make a samplier quilt , but please give me some ideas and thoughts?

i had a thought last nite about a quilt i have always thought about making. But in the past i have tried and ran into some milestones that stopped me. I want it to be sampler with lots of ideas and thoughts into it. Can i do it by month one square for each month with a different design, or can i do it with just squares that i design and make? Please i need ideas and thoughts about this idea i would really like to show for what i have worked for since i was nine years old. I would like to start this quilt after the christmas holiday.
