No Sound when my Sony Surround Sound receiver is hooked up via Fiber Optic.?

Im trying to get sound from all my devices ( Sony LCD HDTV, Blu-Ray Player, Directv HD Receiver, PS3). I have my video sources connected to my TV via HDMI. My TV has 3 HDMI Inputs and my surround sound has 3 HDMI inputs with 1 HDMI output. Someone told me I can run Fiber Optic from my TV to my surround sound that way if I choose to watch BD, TV or play PS3, I can leave the surround sound receiver on one input and all 3 devices should output the sound when they are turned on. Whats the best way to utilize my Sony Surround sound? Its a very nice one Sony just came out with. Please help, Thanks
